Circumstances of Disappearance:
Unknown. Her photos are shown age-progressed to 50 years and 55 years, respectively. Rose was sent to the Synanon Foundation in Oakland, California, after running away from home.
Synanon was often referred to as a "Cult" or "Sect" that was founded in 1958 by Charles E. Dederich, a recovering alcoholic, for the purpose of rehabilitating alcoholics, drug addicts, and criminals.
Rose arrived at Synanon some time prior to November 1972. She regularly wrote letters home to her step-mom and talked of how much she missed her family, loved them and wanted to come home. In one note she said she had run away from Synanon again and talked of living on the streets in China Town. Her last letter was written on her 16th birthday, December 23, 1972 but was not mailed until February 1973. She has not been seen or heard from since.
The Internal Revenue Service shut the Synanon down in 1989.
Although Cole's case is classified as a simple runaway, it is highly unusual for a runaway to be out of touch for so long. Her case remains unsolved.
