Circumstances of Disappearance:
Solal Georis was taken by his mother, Ronite Bitton, in December 2005, just after the Belgian courts had awarded custody to his father. In April 2007, the Israeli family court recognized Solal's abduction and ordered his return to his father based upon the Hague Convention. It was necessary to wait until the end of the appeal period in April 2008 before the father could travel to Israel and collect his son. Unfortunately, the mother refused to present the child and kidnapped him again. She was finally arrested and charged with abduction and endangering the life of a child. Solal's mother is now under house arrest after having been imprisoned initially, charged with his abduction. Solal has not been returned to his father by the ultra-Orthodox community that his mother left him with, and it is feared that he has been sent to one of the community's bases in the U.S. or Argentina. Solal's whereabouts remain unknown.
