Mark's photos are shown
age-progressed to 14 years and 17 years, respectively. He was last seen on February 10, 2005 at Paxon Middle School in Jacksonville, Florida. He and Bryan
Hayes (photo at right) whose photo is shown age-progressed to 18
years, were both special education students at the school. The boys ran out of the building after an argument with a teacher and disappeared. Police initially believed they were still in the local area. The boys were known to be best friends, and had informed other friends that they planned to run away. Some local citizens reported seeing the boys in a trailer park on the north side of town. By the time authorities reached the site, the boys were gone. It was later learned that Bryan was seen getting into a car outside the school the day he disappeared. Witnesses were not sure if Mark was with him. This report caused authorities to reclassify the missing boys as missing and endangered. There were several sightings of the boys in North Jacksonville in the first 2 weeks after they disappeared. Some reports placed them in Volusia County a month later.
Both children were relatively new students at Paxon Middle School and were unfamiliar with the area. Degner had moved there from Indiana and Hayes from Port Orange, Florida. Their cases remain unsolved. |
