the 100 block of Painttown Road in Cherokee, North Carolina on December 7, 2005. She is from Miami, Florida and was vacationing in North Carolina at the time. She spoke of plans to hike the Appalachian Trail, and called her father that day and told him she was going hiking. She was sighted later that day in Bryson City, North Carolina; she rented a storage space at Ye Olde Mini Storage on River Street. She has not been seen since. There has been no bank activity since she
disappeared. In June 2009, a private investigator working on her case issued a sketch of a man (photo at right) who was seen with her before she vanished. A store clerk who read about her disappearance said she sold a backpack to Miliani and an unidentified man about 60 years old, with gray hair at his temples who said he was a traveling preacher. He may have been wearing a hairpiece. The clerk said Miliani appeared to be nervous. Her case remains unsolved, and foul play is suspected. Both Florida and North Carolina police are investigating. |
